In this second video highlighting the Nest Thermostat and some of it’s capabilities with Tasker, EventGhost, AutoRemote and AutoVoice.
This was quite the challenge to set up.
It all starts with setting variables in Tasker.
The Python scripting in EventGhost, along with the Nest and AutoRemote plug-in allow my phone to be kept up to date on pertinent data such as; set and ambient temperature, time to target (set) temperature and humidity in the home.
EventGhost sends the data by using AutoRemote’s messaging to Tasker, which then sets the variables for each of the aforementioned data. This happens in the background each time the thermostat has new information and does not have any noticeable impact on battery life on my 3300mAh battery
Tasker is also set to do a weather update from wunderground.com for up to the second, accurate weather information and will do equations with the variables that have been set with the thermostat and the local weather site to give me “energy weather reporting”, when the outdoor temperature has risen above 94 degrees (heat index).
Another important function with those variables, it allows me to say “it’s too warm in here” or “it’s too cold in here”.
With these variable set properly, it will subtract 1 degree for “too warm” and add 1 degree if it’s “too cold” then send it back to EventGhost by using AutoRemote.
When EventGhost receives the message, it will contact the Nest servers and set the new temperature in lightening speeds as the video has shown.
