I figured that it would avoid mass confusion for those of you not familiar with the products I will be outlining in the future video series to have a glossary.
These terms are defined alphabetically for easier reference:
API – Application Programmers Interface. This allows for applications to gather data about an item and to manipulate and report that data back to the user in a way the programmer for that application (me using Tasker) in any way specified.
AutoLocation – A plugin for Tasker that simplifies location awareness by building geofences with user specified location and radius. Also has monitoring for activities like walking, biking and driving to start GPS programs like a speedometer, map or pedometer.
AutoRemote – Allows users to send commands to other devices such as another phone, windows desktop, or EventGhost. These commands can be as simple as turn the volume up, or as complex as sending a text or long URL to another device.
AutoVoice – Another Tasker plugin that allows you to control tasks with your voice
EventGhost – A Windows program to automate everything a computer can connect to. Has several plugins available to operate proprietary equipment such as a infrared receiver our as complex as a television or a thermostat. Could be called the brain of the house.
Locale NFC Plugin – This plugin interfaces with tasker to give each chip an identity to perform a specified task.
Nest Thermostat – A highly programmable thermostat that interfaces with a central server, connecting to your wifi network. By using an EventGhost plugin, the thermostat becomes programmable with scripting in Python.
NFC – Near-field communication. Typically found in newer phones, can read small chips the size of a large grain of salt. These automate Tasker with the help of a plugin to perform tasks based upon the unique identity of each chip.
Python – A computer programming language.
Plug-in – A specific development project that interfaces directly with the program it is designed for
Tasker – An Android application available on the Play store that allows you to automate any task with your phone.
Task/Macro – A list of actions that are performed at one time
